Creative consultant, educator, and author Peter Markham, former directing head at the American Film Institute Conservatory, offers nearly 75 hours of filmmaking courses and individual sessions online.

A lead instructor and advisor-in-residence with Sundance Collab, he also teaches for the Rising Voices program.

Prior to teaching, Peter was a director in his native UK, and worked with filmmakers such as Anthony Minghella and Martin Scorsese.

His first book What’s the Story?—The Director Meets Their Screenplay: An Essential Guide for Directors and Writer-Directors was published by Focal Press/Routledge on September 8th 2020. His second book The Art of the Filmmaker: The Practical Aesthetics of the Screen was published by Oxford University Press on October 13th 2023.

Peter is currently giving consultations on both shorts and features at all stages—from initial idea, to screenplay, to visualization, to production, through to the cut and final edit. His online courses are scheduled at regular intervals.
